Nutritional deficiencies
Your thyroid needs iodine, selenium, zinc, iron, vitamin D and B vitamins to make and activate its hormones.
How it affects your thyroid
Making thyroid hormone needs iodine and tyrosine, an amino acid from protein. Converting T4 into active T3 depends on selenium, zinc and iron.
Vitamin D supports healthy immune regulation, and low levels are common in autoimmune thyroid disease. B12 deficiency is more common in Hashimoto’s, partly because of reduced stomach acid.
More isn’t always better: too much iodine or selenium can aggravate thyroid problems, especially in Hashimoto’s. That’s why we test rather than guess.
