Liver function
The liver converts much of your T4 into active T3 and clears used hormones. When it struggles, both slow down.
How it affects your thyroid
The liver converts a large share of T4 into active T3, and makes the proteins that carry thyroid hormone in the blood.
It also breaks down and clears used hormones. Alcohol, some medications, diet and blood sugar problems can all add to its workload.
Bile from the liver and gallbladder is needed to digest fats and absorb vitamins A, D, E and K.
Signs it may apply to you
- Discomfort after fatty or rich foods
- Sluggish digestion
- Sensitivity to alcohol, caffeine or medication
- Hormonal symptoms
How we test for it
- Liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT, ALP)
- Bilirubin
- Albumin
Your baseline shows whether this is a priority for you before any further tests are recommended.
